Red

Before anyone gives me any credit for being creative, I'm being forthright with the fact that the color theme idea is stolen from Katie.

The whole "new job" thing is creating, or at least allowing for, some significant lifestyle changes. As a rule, I tend to keep a pretty full schedule. I don't think I've necessarily aimed for this throughout my life, but it's certainly happened, especially in high school and college. Down time was a rarity. In my post-college life, things have slowed down a bit, but I've consistently maintained a full-time job (or combination of 3 jobs), plus church and other volunteer-type activities.

Until 2 weeks ago. In attempt to remain available to take on more clients, I've drastically opened up my schedule, at least work-wise. I haven't worked more than 3 hours in any one day and not more than 9 in a week. It's new for me, but somehow I've adapted. After reflecting on what I have been doing, I'll share a few rosy-tinted highlights.

"Morning" Routine: Sleeping in, walking to Daz Bog for a latte, and reading something (often work-related!). It's a block and a half away and, you know, the people are pretty cool or whatever.

The office out of which my new place of employment operates is only 15 blocks from my apartment, so I've been much more willing to ride my silly red mountain-bike-with-slick-tires than I was when I worked at Patagonia (a wicked 3.5 mile bike ride). We've been bonding.

I've been working really hard on trying to enjoy the little things (is that somewhat paradoxical? working hard to enjoy something?). One I like a lot: the cherry tree in front of my next door neighbor's house. It's pretty, birds like to hang out there - it's not too difficult to appreciate.

"On a traffic light, green means go and yellow means yield, but on a banana it's just the opposite; green means hold on, yellow means go ahead, and red means where the hell did you get that banana at?"
